Wild Desire (Johnny Cash Live Sessions)
NASHVILLE, TENN (July 14, 2014) – Infectious duo, Sugar + the Hi-Lows (Trent Dabbs and Amy Stroup) have sweet new music for fans. The band recently joined forces with the Nashville Ballet for Attitude, an innovative choreographed show where they performed along to Johnny Cash songs. As a result of the overwhelming response from the ballet, Sugar + the Hi-Lows are releasing the live recordings in the seven-track release, Wild Desire (Johnny Cash Live Sessions) available July 22. The songs were recorded live in the studio and tracked, all in less than three days. Wild Desire (Johnny Cash Live Sessions) includes Cash favorites such as “God’s Gonna Cut You Down,” “Hurt” and “I Walk The Line.”
In an interview with USA Today, Stroup recalls, “I remember hearing a story that June Carter Cash wrote ‘Ring of Fire’ and was either playing it or performing it for Johnny Cash. He had a dream and he heard mariachi horns, then he recorded his version. For this song, we wanted to go back to how June wrote it, just as a simple love song and bring out the melodic side of things. Take it back to how it was written.” See the whole article here.
On July 25, Sugar + the Hi-Lows are among the selected artists to perform in the BBC Four documentary for Elvis Presley. The duo recorded the King of Rock 'n’ Roll's song, “I Got A Woman” as part of his 60th Anniversary Recordings at Sun Studio. The special comes after a month-long feature on BBC Radio – “That’s All Right: 60 Years On” hosted by actor and musician Sam Palladio (Nashville). The session was recorded live from Sun Studio in Memphis, Tenn.
Sugar + the Hi-Lows just wrapped up a national tour with Ingrid Michaelson on her “Lights Out Tour.” The tour included sold out shows in Washington DC, New York, Boston and Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium. As Sugar + the Hi-Lows, the two Nashville singer-songwriters released their debut self-titled album and have been featured on TV shows such as Pretty Little Liars, Nashville and Grey’s Anatomy. They are working on a forthcoming album, set for release early next year. On September 6, Sugar + the Hi-Lows will perform at Lightning 100’s “Live On The Green” along with Jake Bugg, LP, Phin, The Lone Bellow and Ingrid Michaelson.
