2016 Memories + Thanks

Last year about this time my band Sugar + The Hi-Lows was rehearsing to open for Chris Stapleton and Kings of Leon to bring in the New Year in Nashville, TN in front of 150,000 people. I don’t know if I’ve ever been in a single space with that many people and surely started 2016 on quite the high. The year didn’t stop there. Here are the top 10 highlights...

1.    Moving into a new Milkglass HQ. After 6 years as a creative
company, Milkglass moved into our very own new studio late
this summer. I can’t believe that it really happened!

2.     Writing for a new 2017 Amy Stroup record. We’ve got one
single in the queue ready to come out, and more to follow.
Can’t wait to share them all!

3.     Performing “Stranger” at the Americana Music Festival with
Sugar + The Hi-Lows – singing “The Pearl” with Emmylou
Harris, John Paul White, and more.

4.     My latest single “In The Shadows” was featured on the
    Marvel Comics Daredeviltrailer

5.     Collaborating and writing with rapper chief waKiL in
Los Angeles epecially for a rap version of “Radar” by
    Danger Twins

6.     Sugar + The Hi-Lows touring with Kacey Musgraves.
We saw the world with her and it was beautiful.

7.     Collaborating with producer Ruslan to release a latin project
called “Bandido” by Oro Mara. You have to check it out!

8.     “Silent Night” by Sugar + The Hi-Lows featured on the
Spotify Christmas Cocktail playlist. Go listen!

9.     My nephew Lincoln texting me that he heard “Like a
Champion” by Danger Twins while watching a Texas football
    game on ESPN

10.     The continued support of my lovely fans. You guys have
made it possible for me to do what I love for another year,
and for that I am truly grateful!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Amy

Wave featured in New Balance Women's AD

Co-wrote and sang in a song called 'Wave' for the Danger Twins. The little song found it's way into one of the most inspiring ads I've seen in a long time. Many of you know I ran cross-country and track in high school and even now I still love the sport of trail running. That said, with this ad it was fun to get to be apart of promoting beautiful activities that I care about and think their participation can actually help not only our physical but spiritual and mental health. Here's to getting outside this summer and enjoying great outdoor workouts!

Johnny Cash Arrangements + Ballet Performance

Trent and I have worked hard arranging and recording a fresh badge of Johnny and June Cash duets. We are headed to Little Rock to perform the songs live while the Arkansas ballet performs live. We originally did the ballet in Nashville a couple of years ago with our local company and now we are taking it on the road!  Check out our recordings and live sessions on Spotify, iTUNES, or Amazon. If you need a good exuse for a road trip, join us this weekend in Little Rock. Tickets here.

Hanging w/ Friends + Writing Songs

Excited to say out loud that I am working on a new solo album! Been hanging with friends and writing and absorbing all things to try and gather what it is I need to say. Cut 4 so far ... 6 to go!

Sugar + The Hi-Lows and The Nashville Ballet

My band Sugar + The Hi-Lows are back teaming up with the Nashville Ballet for the 2016-2017 season! Mark your calendars for February 9-12, 2017!

Under the Lights choreography by Christopher Stuart
Live music performed by Sugar + The Hi-Lows
Music by Johnny Cash, Amy Stroup and Trent Dabbs

Sergeant Early’s Dream choreography by Christopher Bruce
Music by Various Irish, English and American Folk Composers

Smash hit Under the Lights returns after its 2014 premiere to pay tribute the iconic life and legacy of Johnny Cash with Nashville’s own Sugar + The Hi-Lows. Offering a glimpse into the origins of modern day country, Sergeant Early’s Dream is a collection of vignettes depicting the immigration experience from Europe to America in the 19th century set to early folk music. With this bold combination of contemporary dance and live music, Nashville Ballet shows off its edgier side with a little Attitude.

Attitude will be at TPAC's Polk Theater for four (4) performances:

  • Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday, February 10, 2017 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, February 11, 2017 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.
